Support Burning The Clocks – A Brighton Institution

Since 1995, the people of Brighton have gathered on a cold December night for one of the most popular annual events in the city – the festival known as Burning the Clocks.
Held on the shortest day of the year, December 21st, Burning the Clocks “combines a family lantern procession with a spectacular fire and fireworks show, bringing the whole city together to celebrate.”
Unique paper and willow lanterns are created for the procession, which winds through the streets of Brighton and culminates in a colossal burning of the lanterns on Brighton beach.
The event is organised by Same Sky, an artist-led charity based in Brighton. This year Same Sky are appealing to the public to help support this much-loved local event. Through crowdfunding the festival they hope to make it as dazzling as possible and build up enthusiasm and excitement in the run up to the event.
At Martin Searle Solicitors we’re big fans of Burning the Clocks, and of Same Sky, who worked with us on our award-winning maternity and pregnancy discrimination awareness campaign, “Mind the Gap”. Same Sky created a 12 foot tall papier mache pregnant woman to act as the “unofficial spokeswoman” for our campaign, who we christened Joy.
We’re supporting Burning the Clocks this year, and we’d urge anyone else who can spare a little cash to chip in and support the festival. Offbeat, unique local events like Burning the Clocks are what make cities like Brighton special and we should all do what we can to ensure their success.
