New Year – New Contracts Campaign
Martin Searle Solicitors are launching an employment law campaign throughout January 2016 to encourage employers to introduce or update their contracts.
They will be offering a 10% discount to businesses and organisations who need to update or implement new junior and senior contracts. These will include post-termination restrictions, where needed, to protect the business after an employee leaves. They will also provide free up-to-date grievance, disciplinary and capability policies.
Fiona Martin, Head of Employment Law at Martin Searle Solicitors says: “Many businesses fail to issue written contracts of employment. This can work when relationships are harmonious and the contract is based on custom and practice and implied terms. But ambiguity can lead to disputes.”
Throughout January, their employment lawyers will provide a free half hour telephone advice service for employers and employees on workplace contractual rights and policies and procedures. This will include grievances and disciplinary procedures.
Fiona continues: “We often come across badly drafted contracts which are onerous for the employer. For example, contracts which contain their companies disciplinary and grievance procedure must be followed ‘to the letter’ to avoid breach of contract claims. We ensure these are set out in a separate policy and are only referred to in the actual contract.”
To support the campaign, Martin Searle Solicitors have also produced a series of Factsheets, Case Studies, Top Tips and FAQs covering contractual rights for employers and employees.
For free and confidential advice, employers and employees can call our Contracts and Handbooks legal advice line on Tuesdays and Thursdays throughout January from 4pm to 6pm on 01273609911, or email info@ms-solicitors.co.uk.
