Our Community Care Law Team is Growing

Sophia Withers and Lily Grunwell

We are delighted to welcome two new lawyers to our Community Care law team.

Sophia Withers joins us from Bishop and Light, where she worked for twenty years in Mental Health and Mental Capacity Law. Sophia brings a huge amount of expertise to our team particularly around Welfare Proceedings in the Court of Protection and Best Interest Decision-Making.

Sophia says “I am delighted to have joined such a brilliant and inclusive team.  We all come from a wide range of backgrounds which gives each of us our own unique skill set. This covers Court of Protection litigation, Continuing Healthcare Assessments and disputing Unfair Care Home Contracts.  Every team meeting is a learning experience.  Cate’s Community Care expertise is unrivalled and she is an inspirational figurehead”.

Lily Grunwell has also joined our Community Care team after completing her training contract and qualifying as a solicitor in September. Lily started out as a Team Assistant in 2019. She studied while working and completed her Legal Practice Course with a distinction.

Lily says “I joined the Community Care Team as I enjoy advising individuals and professional deputies on issues such as Paying for Care and securing adequate care packages for our clients. I thoroughly enjoy my work in the Community Care team and am grateful to everyone in the team for their support”.

Cate Searle, Director and Head of Community Care law, said “My team offers a wealth of experience and enthusiasm in equal measure. The Legal 500 recently described us as ‘leaders in our field’. We are now able to add Sophia’s Court of Protection and Mental Capacity expertise to the team, along with supporting an exceptional new generation of lawyers, such as Lily, as they take their first steps in Community Care law”.

With eight solicitors and two legal executives we are well placed to advise our clients on a variety of complex Community Care Law and Court of Protection issues without having to rely on unqualified paralegals. We are proud to have such an exceptional team.
